Know About Adenovirus 2023

Adenoviruses are a group of common viruses that can cause a wide range of illnesses, including respiratory infections, conjunctivitis (pink eye), gastroenteritis (stomach flu), and bladder infections. There are more than 50 different types of adenoviruses that can cause human disease, and they are often spread through close contact with an infected person, such as through coughing, sneezing, or touching contaminated surfaces.

Adenoviruses can affect people of all ages, but young children, people with weakened immune systems, and those with underlying health conditions are at a higher risk of developing severe symptoms. Symptoms of adenovirus infection can vary depending on the type of virus and the part of the body that is affected. Common symptoms include fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis, diarrhea, and vomiting.

Treatment for adenovirus infection typically involves supportive care, such as rest, fluids, and over-the-counter medications to relieve symptoms. In severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary. There are currently no specific antiviral medications available to treat adenovirus infections, although researchers are working on developing vaccines and other therapies.

Preventing the spread of adenoviruses involves practicing good hygiene, such as washing hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick. Vaccines are also available for certain types of adenoviruses, such as those that cause respiratory illnesses in military recruits.
